Swapmeet have announced their signing to Los Angeles indie label Winspear Records (The Convenience, Wishy, Lutalo), their first release is a new single called “I Know!” The quartet from South Australia includes Venus O’Broin (guitar, vocals), Joshua Doherty (bass), Maxwell Elphick (guitar, drums, vocals), and Jack Medlyn (guitar, drums, vocals). The band met as teenagers in the early 2020s while playing in various projects around the Adelaide music scene and bonded over their love of 90s alternative, citing Pavement and Sonic Youth as early influences.

They soon started writing music together and released their debut single in late 2023 which resulted in the EP, Oxalis, in mid-2024. The EP was well received, and the band was soon moving out of local pub gigs and into big clubs, opening for touring artists across the whole of Australia, and recently won the Emerging Artist & Best Performance award at SXSW Sydney for their live show, spurring Monster Children to dub them “the next big thing to come out of Australia” and earning praise from Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman.

“”I Know! was written accidentally – a song arising from an in-between practice jam. Unlike the other songs on the album, this song kind of wrote itself. The lyrics alike arose pretty spontaneously too, without much over-analysing or fluff. I Know! I Know! I Know! You know?”
