To celebrate their signing to Nettwerk Records, Gardena, California band Inner Wave shares “Madre,” their first new music since their 2021 album Apoptosis “The song is all about strong melodies and rhythms,” explains bassist Jean-Pierre Narvaez. “We allowed for all these other melodies to kind of come up from under the vocal melody as well, which was what I was really into while writing the bass line for that one. It also speaks to our West Coast hip-hop background—it has a bounce that I don’t really hear other bands doing.”

“Madre” also emphasizes the sense of transition and maturation that Inner Wave underwent across the recording process of the new project. “There’s a lot of letting go of things and embracing the uncomfortable—the unknown,” explains lead vocalist Pablo Sotelo. “We’ve all become more self-aware and mindful of others, and that led us to make this record.”

The band played both weekends of Coachella in 2022, opened for two of Chicano Batman’s farewell shows in 2024, and played all three editions of bygone Latin indie utopia Tropicalia Festival, as well as tours across North America, Europe and China.
