PISS is a Vancouver quartet, whose music combines music, poetry, sound collage, performance art, and various mediums of visual art that blurs the line between personal and political. Their Instagram page, describes their music as ‘easy listening, also serves to wryly subvert the construct that loud, noisy music has little of substance to say. PISS is fuelled by the deeply moving, arresting, artful and at times painful, personal reflections and lyricism of lead singer, Taylor Zantingh.

The band have only three demo’s available to hear via their Bandcamp page, and have attracted and assembled a team that has booked PISS on a six week international tour that includes multiple festivals plays across North America, and The U.K. and Europe this fall. They have played recent shows with Lambrini Girls and a recent slot at Sled Island. A pair of Vancouver live dates, beginning on Thursday this week with Fcukers and Bratmobile in August, give the final preview before the shows that span September to November this fall kick off.

Powered by a combination of expertly angular and intuitive musicianship from, Tyler Paterson (guitar), Gavin Moya (bass) and Garreth Roberts (drums) who all support Taylor’s visceral, emotional, exposed nerve-ending lyrics, PISS are determined to deliver energetic live performances, alongside a crystal-clear vision of a safer underground community. PISS, take their inspiration from a wide range of unexpected influences: literary giants, philosophers, filmmakers, painters, psychoanalysts, activists, children, members of a German anarcho-feminist militant group, and audience members from their shows, to name a few. These voices represent varying ideological beliefs about gender-based violence and enable the group to create art that depicts challenging and controversial issues such as sexual violence and enculturated gender norms without reduction, romanticization, polemics, or dogmatism.
