Trace Mountains, has released new single “The Line,”produced by and featuring (on guitar, bass, and vocals) Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy. Written during the same time period as songs on last fall’s album Into the Burning Blue, and recorded in December 2024/January 2025, the track is rich and bright–offsetting its underlying ache. “’The Line’ is a song about the distance between two people—how sometimes that distance isn’t measured in miles, but in memories, in mistakes,” Dave Benton explains. “There’s a restless heart in it, one that keeps moving just to outrun the ache. And underneath all the motion, there’s a deep, stubborn kind of longing—the kind that makes you draw aline in the sand just so you won’t cross it again, even if you already know you will.” “The Line” is out nowvia Lame-O Records across all DSPs, and alongside a video directed by Alyx Soard and filmed in White Sands, NM.

“The Line” was written during the same time as songs on Trace Mountain’s 2024 LP Into the Burning Blue, produced by Craig Hendrix (Japanese Breakfast) and which saw Benton grappling with the end of an 8-year romantic relationship, and is ultimately a testament to moving forward and keeping your eyes on the burning horizon line–capturing heartache, joy, and growth in equal measure. The track is now available via Lame-O Records Trace Mountains will head to the UK for a run of additional headline shows and dates supporting MJ Lenderman.
