Lou Tides is the moniker of Teeny Lieberson. Today, the multi-artist has shared new single “Map Maker,” arrives ahead their album, Autostatic!, arriving May 23, 2025 via Switch Hit Records. Inspired by embracing self awareness following years of drinking, “Map Maker” finds Lieberson probing the roots of her habits to gripping ends. “You were always easy to love / I know what’s in my head / You were always easy to love / Map maker even your friends are her,” she sings in a deep voice over a pounding beat and twinkly synths. On the track Lieberson shares: “To have a relationship with yourself that is truthful, it requires actually caring about yourself. I spent so many years drinking away that care, utilizing the only coping mechanisms I thought were available to me. Mistaking punishment for expansion. ‘Map Maker’ is about looking at my choices – some inherited, some familial, and trying to rip open my understanding of love.”

Many of Autostatic!’s songs were first written while Lieberson was quarantining in Nova Scotia during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, on a trip to visit family. Lieberson spent her days in a tiny cottage overlooking the ocean with an array of modular synthesizers, writing and recording demos. Synthesizers are central to Lieberson’s musical process, and she delights in their boundless capacity. “You can really build a world” with synthesizers, she explains. “You’re able to create more multi-layered tones and more widescreen sounds with synthesis than you can with any other instrument.”

Lieberson entered the studio with musician and producer Bartees Strange, drawn to his track record working outside the strict confines of genre. They built atop Lieberson’s demos to craft the finished versions of Autostatic!’s songs, with additions from longtime drummer and collaborator Sarah Galdes, as well as Lieberson’s sister, musician Lizzie Loveless; drummer Vishal Nayak; producer Miles Francis; and mixer Chris Connors.
