Double Wish has shared a new video for “Pleasure”. The song is off the band’s forthcoming album the Light Split Sparkle Expanded Edition, now available via Hit the North Records and Seattle-based independent label, Neon Bloodbath (Ridgeway, Pure Hex) on August 4th. Double Wish will be headlining Genghis Cohen, Los Angeles on September 14th and performing as part of Nothing Fest alongside Inner Wave, ALEXSUCKS, The Hellp, Yungatita and more.

Speaking about the introspective, sun-soaked “Pleasure”, Adam Sabolick of the band says: “This is a song about the pursuit of desire. Pleasing and being pleased.”

Double Wish is a phrase that came to Sabolick after picking up on how The Mamas & The Papas album, People Like Us, operates on a psychological level, mixing the light with the dark. Throughout 2020 and 2021, Sabolick took solace in People Like Us, a record that, in time, would become the bedrock to the debut Double Wish EP, showing Sabolick the way to couple somber lyrics with gleaming, hyper-pop sensibilities.

“When they recorded this, their relationships with each other and themselves were so complex. Romance, substance abuse, and the illusion of optimism that taunted their careers all came to the surface,” he explains. “I see a similarity in the way I express myself through songwriting. There’s a constant tension between optimism and pessimism. I also think that our “California” sound is balanced by lyrical content that is a bit “behind the curtain” or “existential.”
