Young Astronaut debuts “The Old Cool” video

Young Astronaut debuts video for "The Old Cool"

Young Astronaut is an indie 4-piece from New Forest, UK. The band are ready to release their new album A Gold Frontier. The full-length was produced By Geoff Swan (White Lies). Today, the band shares the video for album track “Old Cool”. A Gold Frontier drops on April 7th.

“The Old Cool is loosely inspired by the 80s movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. We had written an instrumentally up-tempo track and I remember watching Ferris Bueller and thinking that his character perfectly fits the sound we’d just created. From that starting point, we created a care-free fictional character and based the lyrics around him and his devil-may-care attitude.

The video reflects the reckless and impulsive nature of the character so we dressed Niko, Paul and Pete in masks and followed them around all night. They break into an old lady’s swimming pool, steal a car and drive it around, disregarding the law in the pursuit of cheap thrills.

It was the first video Rich Dimery had directed for us and we wanted the aesthetic to reflect the 80s films we grew up watching. The BMXs have that E.T.-esque feel and the car is a old classic red one (a subtle wink to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off)”.

Hilights from A Gold Frontier include, opening track “Chasing El Dorado” begins softly with a guitar, bass and the vocals by introducing the theme of the song. Soon after it is followed by Stornoway-like harmonies and Iggy Pop’s “Sunday”-esque groovy drumbeat, only then to pass through an intrumental mid-tempo bridge and later finish in a grand and almost cinematic way.

Upcoming Shows:
