Brightness (aka Alex Knight) has shared his new singlr “Year Of The Goat” is the second single off his forthcoming, self-titled release, due Friday, October 25th via I OH YOU.

On “Year Of The Goat” Knight see-saws between the apocalyptic and the mundane in what he’s summarized as “a song about rebirth.” In the chorus, he chimes “Asphalt heaving…Heavens are leaking,” while later, blankly describes being “parked outside of Arby’s” while “something by Rihanna is playing”. The turmoil of being faced with a painful transition is interwoven not only through the words but also the surging instrumentation with its swerving mood and color.

Brightness was recorded with producer Sam Griffin Owens (Cass McCombs, Chris Cohen, Sam Evian) at Spillway Sound in The Catskills. The area is said to stir wonder in visitors lucky enough to experience its beauty, from the addled attendees of Woodstock Festival to 19th-century transcendentalist, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Knight affirms, “the location and pairing (with Owens) couldn’t have been more fitting”.

Brightness played his first show in some time over the weekend in Australia, performing a set of tracks of his new album to a crowd hanging on his every note.
