YACHT Shares New Video from Latest Album

YACHT’s new album, I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler, is available everywhere on Downtown Records; today, they are excited to share the title track’s video. Directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko.

Claire Evans & Jona Bechtolt of YACHT note:

“This is a science fiction video that uses only existing technologies—VR, drones, self-balancing scooters (“hoverboards”), telepresence robots, selfie sticks, Soylent, and vape pens. All of these things have variably been presented as symbols of our futuristic world, but up close, they just feel straight-up comical. Our director, Eugene Kotlyarenko, has a unique perspective on this material, as a filmmaker. His feature film, Zeros and Ones, takes place entirely in computer interfaces. He was a perfect partner. He totally understood what we wanted to do and how to do it—from faux FaceTime to faking scrubbing ahead on YouTube.”

Director Eugene Kotlyarenko, whose new feature film A Wonderful Cloud, comes out in select theaters and on VOD this Friday, writes,

“So much of my work is about the anxieties induced by technology and how absurd it makes our lives. When I heard the song and met up with YACHT about their original concept, our sensibilities congealed immediately. It was full speed ahead from the word go. The whole experience was a fun lark. In fact the only issue we had was keeping our slew of ideas down to a manageable number. There are just way too many silly objects running our lives these days. Exhibit A: The Eggstractor. Clearly the future is now.”

The band is on tour now with shows in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, London and more. All dates are below. Fans can order the album on iTunes and purchase an exclusive white limited edition vinyl LP and tote bag at their local independent record store while supplies last.
