Xiu Xiu Unveils New Video, Reveals Euro Tour

Xiu Xiu Unveils New Video, Announces NYC Events, and Reveals European Tour,

Xiu Xiu have released their newest video off their latest record, Angel Guts: Red Classroom. Set to album track “Cynthia’s Unisex,” the video is a dark exploration of children’s art, directed by Florent Texier. The video can be watched in full below. The video release coincides with a series of New York events Xiu Xiu is set to kick off later this month. Starting on September 27th and continuing through October 18th, Xiu Xiu and conceptual artist Danh Vō will present “Metal” at The Kitchen in Manhattan. As a part of of the exhibition, Xiu Xiu will perform alongside two gold pounders from Thailand where the gold leaf for many of Vō’s pieces are made. Together Xiu Xiu and the gold pounders they will generate syncopated compositions that mix pounders’ rhythms, set against a backdrop of Vō’s finished artwork. There will be an opening reception for the piece on Saturday, September 27th at 6 p.m.

In addition, Xiu Xiu will debut Kling Klang! on September 28th at the Dumbo Arts Festival. A durational performance, Xiu Xiu will attach 999 vibrating instruments to the copper sheets of Danh Vo’s art installation We The People. The vibrating instruments will create a chord that will shift and morph as the instruments’ batteries slowly die. This event is free and open to the public.

Xiu Xiu will also be playing a standard live show at Glasslands in Brooklyn on October 18th with Yvette. All of this precedes Xiu Xiu’s latest European tour, which kicks off at the end of October in Italy.

Angel Guts: Red Classroom, released earlier this year on Polyvinyl, is the beginning of Xiu Xiu’s descent from grayness into the deepest blackness endurable. It is the sound of Xiu Xiu’s death. This is a bold proposition, even for a band that has never so much pushed the envelope as pulled it (forcefully) away from the line other musicians are willing to toe. And now, in what is unquestionably their darkest hour, Xiu Xiu have lit the envelope on fire and are using it as a torch to light the path ahead.
