Brooklyn’s WRITER is brothers James and Andy Ralph. The band will release their sophomore album Principle Web on April 8th via Small Plates Records. Today, Pancakes and Whiskey gave us another taste of the album, premiering single “Neighborly,” and noting “Enlisting the help of childhood friend/multi-instrumentalist-shredder Joshua Greco on their sophomore effort, their sound has never been fuller and is evident with this rolling fuzz of a track. The LP, which we’ve spun a few times now, weaves all the tracks into a larger story of living in a big city and is filled with pure NYC grit.”

WRITER are also happy to announce they will play an album release show on Saturday, April 9th at NYC’s Berlin. See below for more details.

The band have previously shared their first single, “Mosquito Bitten,” at Paper Magazine, who said it “hits the sweet spot between the languid crawl of early Pavement and the nourishing fuzz of Dinosaur Jr., but with a melody strong enough to ward off accusations of being a nostalgia act.” Listen to the song here.

The new album is the followup to their debut record Brotherface, released on UK label 3 Syllables. It’s a fuzz laden, seismic registering, teeth gritting, fist clenching 10 song record. Brooklyn Vegan announced its release as a record “loaded with dense, gritty, anthemic songs”. For Principle Web, the brothers reunited with childhood compadre and multi-instrumentalist-shredder, Joshua Greco and together they recorded a neo-grunge series of interlacing song-stories.

WRITER has taken the Ralphs all over the country and they’ve gone on tour with bands like Os Mutantes, Cults, Margot & the Nuclear So & So’s, Tape Deck Mountain, Heartless Bastards and Guards. And while their early work brought forth visions of mermaids, highways and pretty Californian girls, their sound has developed a layer of dirt so thick you can feel it. Months of touring, taking risks on different rooms and varied sound guys, playing alongside experimental noise bands has given WRITER a newfound confidence but also a newfound freedom, making their performances as exuberant in a brand new, giant venue as it is in a brownstone basement. 2016 will bring more touring for the band.
