Wolf Alice have shared a cover of The Roches’ “Hammond Song,” featuring backing vocals from Julia Cumming of Sunflower Bean and Bria Salmena. The release follows the band’s recent single “Gospel Oak” and arrives on the heels of their massive homecoming show at Finsbury Park earlier this month.

Drawn to the three-sister harmony at the heart of the original recording, Ellie Rowsell, Cumming, and Salmena tracked their version in Los Angeles during sessions for The Clearing. Written by Maggie Roche, the song was born out of the trio’s early-’70s detour from a promising New York music career to Hammond, Louisiana, chasing one sister’s romance — a trip they later regretted, but one that produced one of the group’s most cherished tracks.

Rowsell has said the band had long admired the song’s guitar work and vocal arrangement, noting it had even influenced Blue Weekend before resurfacing as inspiration for The Clearing. With Cumming and Salmena both based in LA at the time, learning the harmonies together felt like a natural next step.

The trio also performed the track live this week at Wolf Alice’s biggest-ever New York show, at Pier 17. “Hammond Song” marks the second single pulled from The Clearing: B-Sides, a 7″ release due August 21 — exactly one year after The Clearing itself dropped. That album went on to hit No. 1 in the UK, earn a fourth consecutive Mercury Prize shortlist nomination, and help the band take home Group of the Year at the 2026 BRIT Awards.

With critics calling their recent homecoming show a defining moment for the band, “Hammond Song” offers a warmer, harmony-driven side of Wolf Alice ahead of the B-sides collection’s release.
