“Who Wants” by Jade Bird

Jade Bird has returned with new single “Who Wants”. The track was witten in the wake of her parents’ divorce when she was just 16, the song captures the pain of losing yourself in a relationship and the lingering presence of past generations in our own heartbreaks. A song about love, loss and grief.
The UK born and bred, and now LA-based, artist signed to Glassnote Records (Chvrches, Aurora) whilst still in her teens. Her debut album was released in 2019, the follow-up, Different Kinds of Light (2021), marked a new creative chapter, recorded with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, John Prine).
Who Wants’ is Jade’s first new music since the reflective, genre-blurring Burn The Hard Drive EP, a spring ‘24 collaboration with Mura Masa. A cathartic collection of songs, the EP closed the chapter on a past relationship and signaled a turning point in Jade’s personal and creative life.
“I wrote this about divorce. It’s about the symptoms of a broken relationship that you don’t advertise or want to talk about. Staying inside the shell or ghost of what once was, while mourning what could have been.” Jade explains. Whilst still deep diving into her feelings in the most refreshingly honest way, this new chapter promises to offer hope and clarity for the future.
Over the course of her career, Jade has played Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits, and delivered standout performances on Later… With Jools Holland, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
