UK-based duo Yawning Portal recently share their new single “Walking On Water”, alongside a stripped-back Candlelight Mix via R&D platform odyXxey.

“Walking On Water” finds the light in dark times: “This song was written about a yearning for hope and meaning in times of collapse; whether that be through friendship, love and kinship, faith, conspiracy…” say Yawning Portal on the single. “Crisis is a condition where new paths are carved. Equilibrium is impermanent. At this moment the cells in your body are multiplying and dying: births and revolutions are occuring: someone is inventing new weapons.”

This marks the first of their own releases since their 2020 debut EP ‘Heart & Earth’ on PLZ Make It Ruins, following this they released singles via Slagwerk, Club Paradiso & 29 Speedway, and were featured on the second instalment of YEAR0001’s RIFT compilation series alongside CLIP, Mechatok and Malibu. In 2021, they worked on the soundtrack “Notice the Direction of Fires” for Lydia Ourahmane’s exhibition “Survival in the Afterlife” which was followed with a remix by Felicita. The three continued to collaborate in 2022 on a soundtrack for Lydia’s film “Tassili” which also featured Sega Bodega & Nicolas Jaar. The film has since been presented at several art museums internationally. Yawning Portal performed a live version of the score for the opening at Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris in 2022.

The single is released on odyXxey, a platform for contemporary sound, image and objects. Taking its cues from underground networks, hi-fi functionalism and the urban condition, odyXxey takes a design-led approach, with a global reach and burgeoning events programme in London, now launching in New York. Its subversive mix series ‘odyXxey radio’ has fast become known for uplifting underground scenes across these cities & further afield by spotlighting both established and emerging artists within the creative milieu.
