Until The Ribbon Breaks shares details of forthcoming album 'A Lesson Unlearnt'

Until The Ribbon Break’s debut album A Lesson Unlearnt is releasing on January 20, 2015 via Kobalt Music.

Remember the days when gifting mixtapes was the definitive romantic gesture? That careful ritual of combing though your record collection, choosing a myriad of musical moods and memories for the recipient to imbibe and devour again and again, until the tape wore out – Until The Ribbon Breaks.

Drawing both their approach and name from their art form, Until The Ribbon Breaks (UTRB) are a uniquely skilled, singing, songwriting, producing collective. Decidedly honest, their music embraces an old-school passion for intricate, clever writing, and the slicing together of sounds, samples and lyrics.

Their style embraces a love of hip-hop, pop and electronic beats, weaved together to create sounds, samples and lyrics not unlike that of previous musical genre-hopping masters; Bowie, Beck, Prince, Portishead, Primal Scream and Massive Attack.

Pete Lawrie-Winfield (lead vox, keys, percussion, brass) explains the album title, “I reached a point where creativity no longer held the same spark and I needed to learn a new way to express what I was feeling. I needed to ‘unlearn’ and start again. I needed to re-imagine the endless possibility and infinite chance of sitting in front of a piano, a drum machine and a movie projector…. to empty the mind – “A Lesson Unlearnt.”

Bringing the album to life, the band – Pete Lawrie-Winfield, James Gordon (synth); and Elliot Wall (drums) – will be hitting the road as direct support to fellow British trip-hop trio London Grammar. The 13-date tour commences on January 21 in Toronto.
