New York City dance-funk-afrobeat-latina group Underground System have announced their new self-titled EP will drop on April 14, 2023 via Razor N’ Tape (Midnight Magic, Juan Maclain, Yuksek). Ahead of the release they have shared a brand new video for “Sleazy.” Underground System includes Domenica Fossati and Peter Matson.

“Sleazy” to me is a really special tune and represents a progression in songwriting for the band. We were able to channel a certain mood and a tunefulness that perhaps eluded us before, but I knew we were searching for.

A scrappy 808 drum machine combined with live drums and percussion from our friend and studio mate Vito Roccoforte (The Rapture, Poolside) meets up with the slinky bass line and Domenica’s vocals that are caught somewhere between ethereal and forceful. The vocal sounds slightly reminiscent of Debbie Harry according to several people that work with us, a NY stamp of approval.

The music video we made for ‘Sleazy’ with our friend Chris Egan is the cherry on top. Chris played drums on the other two songs on this ‘Looking In’ EP and he’s also a consummate video maker for Instagram and his band !!! (Chk chk chk) which is where we got to talking and the initial spark to collaborate. We ran around the city for many nights in a row filming at golden hour, and the crown jewel of the whole shoot… when we finally got a hold of a very elusive party limo that once returned me and several passed out friends from a DJ gig at the nightclub LeBain to our homes in BK…. It just all made sense for ‘Sleazy’, enjoy !
