“UFO” by Strange Names

New York City via Minneapolis band,Strange Names have released the video for their latest single “UFO,” the track is off their forthcoming release Data, out February 23rd via Frenchkiss.

Frontman Liam Benzvi tells us of the video, “Our friend Pedro Lopez shot it, and we edited it. It’s heavily inspired by the Bauhaus school, and pretty much encapsulates the overall stylistic message of the record. The video should make you seize a little, giggle, stew in confusion, and hopefully move around. I envision it in the background of Elizabeth Hurley’s hell nightclub in the early 00s Bedazzled remake.”

Data is described as a more rambunctious, rock-centred audio-aesthetic, than their previous release Use Your Time Wisely. After recording, the band spent a week with producer Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, The Drums), who did some final mixing, leaving them with a record that’s assured, inventive and unabashedly fun. Amidst a grim and staggering cultural political zeitgeist, Data acknowledges the trivialities of human existence with self-aware humour through dissociation and escapism. “It’s about adding an element of discovery to these things that are very mundane and routine for us,” Benzvi adds.
