Johanna Samuels has released new single “Two People and the Moon”, the track is now out on Odd Man Out, and was Produced by Jonathan Rado (Foxygen, Weyes Blood). The song is paired with a video directed by Victoria Gagnaire-Stein at Don’t Panic Picture Co.

Samuels on “Two People and the Moon”: “I felt at the time like I was in a deprivation tank for longer than anyone should be. The first line was the whole premise of the song. I was thinking about how in movies there’s that common writing device where two people are separated, but that they’re both under the same moon and are looking up at the same time. It connects them in a way, bound by the light… I often toggle between loving and believing in that image but then losing hope and feeling permanently separate from others. I’ve felt very alone when I tour too much in one year, which I often have to do for financial reasons. The combination of the distance between people in everyday life and touring’s ever-repeating distance from everyday life, makes alienated feelings tolerable or at least rainchecked.”

Samuels’ began writing songs at a young age as a way to express herself. Influenced by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, she honed her craft while studying music at university. After graduating, she embarked on her musical journey, playing gigs at local venues. Since then, she has played shows with Rufus Wainwright, Jon Brion, Bonny Light Horseman, Madison Cunningham, and The Walkmen.
