“Turn Turn Turn” by Teeth and Tongue

"Turn Turn Turn" by Teeth and Tongue is Northern Transmissions' 'Song of the Day'.

Teeth and Tongue is back with a new single “Turn Turn Turn” which showcases Jess Cornelius’ most songwriting and shift into the realm of PJ Harvey or Kate Bush’s “Hounds of Love”.

New Zealand born and Melbourne-based Teeth & Tongue returns with her new album. On the heels of a breakup, Cornelius retired to remote Iceland on a three-month Nes Artist Residency, where she wrote a lot of material like the heartbreaking ‘Small Towns’. But after returning to Melbourne, where Cornelius brought the material to the band: guitarist Marc Regueiro-McKelvie, bassist Damian Sullivan and drummer James Harvey; things took a turn. Unlike 2014’s more ambient Grids, in which the vocals were textured and layered, here they’re dominant over a grid of ’70s electronica.

Cornelius has crafted kitchen-sink dramas and relationship vignettes that follow a lineage from Ken Loach through Jarvis Cocker. Even in her darkest hour, Jess can’t help but rule with a pop aesthetic.

After touring with Courtney Barnett in 2016. Teeth and Tongue has returned with Give Up On Your Health. The album was co-produced by Haima Marriott (Architecture in Helsinki, Banoffee), whose knowledge of vintage synths came in handy when referencing Daft Punk and Giorgio Moroder. It sees its U.S. release this September 2 on Dot Dash / Captured Tracks.
