Passages: Artists in Solidarity with Immigrants, Refugees, and Asylum Seekers, releases the compilation’s third single by Tim Heidecker, “Alone Until I’m Home.” The full album is set for a December 5th release via Western Vinyl. The song follows previous singles by Alan Sparhawk and Benjamin Booker. All labor—producing, mixing, mastering, and design—and costs associated with the record were donated or fundraised separately to ensure all proceeds go directly to American Gateways and Casa Marianella.

Heidecker’s “Alone Until I’m Home” came to him on the road. “I wrote this song on tour with my second favorite family, my band,” he reflected. The song is a tender, clear-eyed ballad about the loneliness of journeys and the spaces they open up inside us for longing and belonging. It is a gesture of compassion toward those forced into displacement, transit, and the reimagining of home.

organizers announced Passages Listening Sessions designed to leverage the record to catalyze local action in solidarity with immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Co-hosted by local artists, advocates, and organizations, events provide the opportunity to listen to the record before its release while delivering information and training relevant to local community efforts.

“The idea is to bring us together—to celebrate music and community, but most importantly to learn from and engage with local efforts to support our neighbors,” say the organizers. Planning is underway for listening sessions in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, and Richmond–with more cities coming soon.

Passages includes more original songs from Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Dirty Projectors, Benjamin Booker, Alan Sparhawk, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Y La Bamba, William Tyler, Lambchop, Lonnie Holley, St. Panther, among others.

All proceeds will benefit two Texas-based organizations, American Gateways and Casa Marianella, providing no-to-low-cost legal services, food, shelter, access to health care, and other essential services to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. On December 4th, organizers will hold a live variety show and raffle/auction hosted by comedian and Passages artist Tim Heidecker on his call-in show Office Hours to further support the two organizations.

“Home, as we know it, is under threat,” say Passages producers and organizers Emilie Rex and Rick Alverson. “When immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers exercise their human right to safe passage, they defend our ability to do so—and our right to be and feel at home.”

The album will be released digitally, and as a limited-edition LP on Western Vinyl. A limited deluxe edition will include liner notes by 2024 National Book Award Winner Jason De León (Soldiers and Kings), and poetry from National Book Critics Circle Award Winner Ross Gay (Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude). Both editions include photography from Pulitzer Foundation Grant Awardee Greg Constantine. Artist Reena Saini Kallat created the piece featured on the cover. The artwork is from the series Ruled Paper (red, blue, white) which depicts contested geographies around the world.
