Ahead of tour dates with The New Pornographers, Diane Coffee has announced a brand new single, and their first since 2019’s Internet Arms – “The Letdown”. Explaining the origins behind the new track, Diane Coffee singer/songwriter and band leader Shaun Fleming shared the following –

“I originally wrote “The Letdown” while writing for Internet Arms, but I held it back because the sound and themes felt separate from the album. This song always stood out to me though, so I felt compelled to revisit it with the help of co-producer Tim Smiley and Lvcky Dave (Bryce Vine), who updated the beat. The song is about the confrontation between the generation of new and the generation of old, a forcible ”passing of the torch” with the assistance of time, somewhat inspired by the recent “Ok Boomer” sentiment. The message is meant to be positive though, with the intention of lifting up those who feel hopeless.”

Formed, or rather, conceptualized in 2012, “Diane Coffee” has served as the bombastic alter-ego of the now Bloomington, Indiana based Shaun Fleming. After departing Foxygen’s live band in 2012, Fleming began putting together the demos of what would become Diane Coffee’s first album My Friend Fish. While Fleming’s look and sound may continue to change, it’s also become a cornerstone of the Diane Coffee experience, always urging you to let go of inhibitions, embrace your wild side, and share that exuberance with the world, no matter where you’re at in your evolution.
