The Japanese House is sharing her new single “Face Like Thunder,” the first track from her forthcoming EP Swim Against the Tide, out November 11 via Dirty Hit / Interscope Records.

The track presents The Japanese House’s production at its most sunlit, with a record that despite its seemingly negative subject matter – “I kiss the floor, curled up in a ball / there’s nothing coming out of my month, so I said nothing at all” – sounds at once poignantly sad and contemplative, but also surfacing with what sounds like deep breaths of opportunity. It’s in a track like this that the dualism Amber’s work is built upon is perhaps at its most present.

The Japanese House is the moniker of 21-year-old Amber Bain. Following the release of her two EPs (Pools To Bathe In and Clean), which showed her ability to create brooding, melancholic electronica that pushes the parameters of alt-pop. She now returns with Swim Against the Tide, which builds upon the sonic foundations laid so far by Amber. With shades of introspection polarised by some of her most euphoric moments to date, Swim Against the Tide is a statement release from Amber.

After spending the majority of the year on tour, The Japanese House will be hitting the road again this fall for a series of UK, EU and US dates.
