The Essex Green

“Don’t Leave It in Our Hands,” a new song from The Essex Green’s forthcoming release Hardly Electronic, available June 29th via Merge Records. Paired with an ominous video directed by Kayhl Cooper, the band says, “’Don’t Leave It In Our Hands’ questions how a generation handles their culture colliding with a technology freight train. Is it an anthem? Yes. Is the outcome uncertain? Definitely.” Along with the single, The Essex Green, will tour North America, starting August 1st in Montreal, QC.

Essex Green on Hardly Electronic:

Hardly Electronic was a true team effort, with all songs being written, produced, and recorded by The Essex Green in studios across America, including California, Montana, New York, and Vermont (where this very music video was filmed). Fans will recognize The Essex Green’s signature sound in this work, their first since 2006’s Cannibal Sea: stacks of harmonies, upbeat melodies telling melancholy tales, layers of keys and sparkling Telecasters. Their time-honored custom of fusing obsession with spontaneity has been refined through experience and wisdom. As SPIN said earlier this year, “the sunny ’60s-inspired melodies, perfectly sloppy rhythm guitar, singalong harmonies, and buoyant, handclap-friendly beat are all back too.”

In addition to the east coast dates, today the band is sharing additional dates on the west coast.
