Dream, Ivory have shares “Tastes Like Candy,” the new single/video from their forthcoming debut album, About A Boy (out September 30th on AWAL), and announces a fall tour including shows with Girlpool. Following lead single “Soaking Up The Sickness,” “Taste Like Candy” is exploring how giving into your social anxiety and staying home is as sweet and unhealthy as candy. “‘Tastes Like Candy’ is a song about the guilty pleasures of being lazy,” the band says. “As mild introverts, we wrote this to emphasize how uncomfortable most social settings can be to us. ‘Tastes like Candy’ reveals that we are all well aware about the dangers of being too lazy; we are reluctant to put ourselves in situations involving any social interaction and realize it can be detrimental mentally. But, it tastes just as good to throw everything out the window and stay in bed alone most days.”

About A Boy was recorded largely over FaceTime, Discord, and email. Christian moved to Los Angeles; Louie remains in their suburban hometown of Lake Elsinore. It’s indicative of how they would always work: separate and together, Louie writing a bassline while Christian worked on separate beats. The version you hear is still self-produced by the Baellos at Christian’s house, elevated with mixing by Henry Stoehr of Slow Pulp. Dream, Ivory’s past work was largely influenced by Beach Fossils’ riffs, Beach House’s synths and pads, and Slowdive’s air-y reverb — sounds they were able to draw from and engineer into a wistful music all their own. Echoes of that early sound remain on About A Boy, but they’re elevated, referencing everything from The Cure and Garbage to Sum 41.
