After a brief pause from his solo work, the Autralian indie icon Tame Impala returned yesterday with the single “End Of Summer.” It inaugurates Kevin Parker’s partnership with the major record label Columbia Records UK, as well as the beginning of a new project since 2020’s The Slow Rush.

Shifting away from the psychedelic rock that defined his sound, “End Of Summer” explores “the deep, rich history of dance music,” per Kevin Parker, drawing inspiration from acid house, rave, and 90s house. It’s one of his longest tracks yet, sprawling over a fading house beat for over seven minutes.

The single comes with a new music video, directed by the multidisciplinary artist, Julian Klincewicz. “This place was shot in a place even dustier than my drum sounds,” Parker joked on social media, referencing the acid house-approporiate warehouses that serve as the background for his visuals.
