Shortly after sharing the new single “Loser”, Australian indie pop artist Tame Impala announced his fifth album Deadbeat, due for release October 17 via Columbia Records. Featuring the song shared yesterday, as well as the club-inspired psych track “End of Summer”, the new record finds its inspiration in the Western Australian rave scene, the minutae of everyday life, and bodily movement.

Kevin Parker aims to take a more minimal approach with Deadbeat’s sound design, contrasting the lush psych rock heard on 2020’s The Slow Rush with its focus on rawer and more spontaneous beats. Lyrically, the new record explores the emotional rut Parker has found himself in — stuck in a loops of boredom and stagnation without feeling much progress. By adopting the movements and pulsations of clubs, Tame Impala also explores the consequences of self-medication and self-discovery in lieu of confronting the monotony of reality head-on.

Not much else is known about the record. Tame Impala has yet to release an official tracklist.
