Norwegian indie pop act Surfalot releases 'My My Oh My' as a free download

Norwegian indie pop artist Surfalot has shared his first single, ‘My My Oh My’, as a free download.

Surfalot is the project of Bendik Johnsrud and was formed in early 2014 during his time in Liverpool, where he studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). The city’s musical heritage inspired the burgeoning artist to create his own brand of euphoric indie pop, and after playing guitar in a number of bands, Bendik decided to strike out alone as Surfalot.

The track is a feel-good blend of genres which Bendik describes as being “inspired by the excesses of the 80s, the call of the surf and good old rock and roll.” Opening with upbeat synths and a bouncing bass line, the track is punctuated with tropical guitar twangs and infectious riffs, with Bendik’s vocals backed by his own soft falsetto as he implores: “Please, please, please come on dance with me.”

Taking influence from across the eras, with the guitars and vocals reminiscent of vintage American surf rock, his love of upbeat melodies can be traced back to his time spent immersed in British indie music in Liverpool. Hints of fellow LIPA graduates The Wombats can be heard in ‘My My Oh My’ as well.

Currently recording new songs with producer Andrew Baardsen, while rehearsing and preparing for live shows to be performed in early 2015, his happy-go-lucky attitude and soulful, summery sound make Surfalot the ideal antidote to those winter blues.
