“Sun Baby” by JayWood

JayWood, the projet of songwriter and producer Jeremy Haywood-Smith, has shared a new video for “Sun Baby,” the track is the follow to previous single “Big Tings” feat. Tune-Yards, and off his forthcoming LP Leo Negro, out September 5, 2025 via Royal Mountain / Captured Tracks.

Speaking on “SUN BABY,” JayWood says “A bit of an astrology lesson: the star sign Leo is ruled by the sun, and on my chart, my sun sign is in Leo, whereas my moon is in Aquarius. My rising sign is in Libra, which is symbolised by the scales. All of this to say…my big three are made up of polar opposites. Leo being this leader with ‘look at me’ confidence, versus my moon being the shy, quiet artistic observer, and my rising trying to find balance between both of those things. That’s the main concept of this whole album, it’s a power struggle of my identity.”

Jeremy continues, “‘SUN BABY’ is an embrace of my vulnerability, and acceptance that I need it to connect with people, an audience, friends, lovers, mentors, idols, whoever. The ‘chow time” section represents my ego flaring up, trying to tear away at my softness only to be deflated by the end of the breakdown. I used to think that softness was a weakness, but I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself. Growing over the years helped me to realize that being still and leaning into softness builds up your strength. You can be the sun (Leo) while taking time for yourself and leaning inwards with people who know and understand you (Aquarius) in order to do this music shit.”
