Sydney Minsky Sargeant recently dropped “Summer Song,” the track is off the UK artist’s forthcoming debut solo album Lunga, available September 12 via Domino Records. Talking about the song, Syd says: “It evokes the longing to be taken away from my self and the habits I once had of thinking in certain ways that felt unavoidable.” The new LP is a departure for Minsky Sargeant, who has been recording as Working Men’s Club for the past seven years.

Minsky Sargeant has performed at Glastonbury stages, tour the UK and Europe, appear on Later with Jools Holland, fans include Atticus Ross (NIN), Cabaret Voltaire’s Stephen Mallinder and Confidence Man for his albums as Working Men’s Club. Last month LCD Soundsystem picked Working Men’s Club to support them at 4 of their 8 dates as part of their Brixton Academy residency.

The 12 songs that mark Lunga – his first album under his own name – were written over a period of years, beginning when Minsky Sargeant (who usually goes by Syd) was a teenager growing up in Todmorden, West Yorkshire and following a chronology to the present day. Syd co-produced Lunga alongside long-time collaborator Alex Greaves and plays most of the instruments on the record. It’s very easy to forget that he is still just 23 years old.
