strongboi just dropped a new one, and it feels like a bit of an exhale.

The duo — Alice Phoebe Lou and Ziv Yamin — released “think twice” today, their first single in a year and the first taste of a second album that’s already in the works. They gave it a proper debut too, playing the song live for the first time this past weekend at Newport Folk Festival, telling the crowd what it was right before diving in. No big rollout, no countdown clock — just a surprise and a song, which feels very on-brand for a band that’s always let the music do the talking.

And what a song it is. “think twice” is hazy and warm, built on that sun-soaked, slightly psychedelic sound Alice Phoebe Lou’s voice always seems to carry with it — but looser this time, more playful. Scratch beneath the surface, though, and there’s something a little tender going on: it’s a song about that specific kind of uncertainty, not quite knowing where you stand with someone, even while the music around it is bouncing and bright. The band calls it their “playful first offering” into what they’re calling their favorite body of work yet, which feels like a promise worth paying attention to.

It’s been a big year for strongboi already. They put out the EP ep 1, sold out a show at London’s Village Underground, and spent a stretch on the road supporting Men I Trust across North America. Alice also just wrapped a run with Olivia Dean. So this isn’t a band coming out of nowhere — it’s one that’s been quietly building.

Now they’re heading out on their own headline tour this fall, 21 dates across North America and Europe, with Salami Rose Joe Louis along for support. It kicks off October 28 in Toronto and closes out in Berlin — fittingly, the city where strongboi first came together — a month later.

If you want a sense of what they’re like live before then, their KEXP session is a good place to start. You can watch it here.
