August 18th, Stephen Steinbrink will release his new album Disappearing Coin via Western Vinyl. The record finds the Bay Area singer-songwriter settling into a pastel-tinted melodic landscape that is both playful and emotional. Today, he has shared the final single “Pony,” driven by shuffling drums and flourishes of vibraphone and synth. With Steinbrink’s distinctive tenor, humorous lyrics summon a sequence of bizarre images that illustrate the absurdity of being aware of one’s own consciousness. The track is accompanied by an animated video, hand-drawn and self-produced by Steinbrink.

On the track, Steinbrink offers: ““Pony” was recorded at Tiny Telephone in Oakland by Adam Hirsch, and features my friend and longterm collaborator Andrew Dorsett on drum kit, hammond organ, piano, and vibraphone. I later animated the illustrated video by hand, matching the feeling to the song’s lyrical concept about of the often hilarious chaotic web of cause and effect. I didn’t set out with a narrative plan for the video and instead just let the story take shape on its own— I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it wanted to tell a tale of interplanetary animal liberation catalyzed by a lemon-lime flavored beverage for dogs.”

Also announced, are new US headline fall tour dates. The live band will feature members: Steinbrink, Cole Pulice, Taylor Vick (Boy Scouts), and Paul Frunzi (Ever Ending Kicks, Mount Eerie).
