Cult filmmaker-turned-singer/songwriter, C.M. Talkington, returns today with his latest offering, “Space Invaders,” a haunting and gritty meditation accompanied by a music video assembled from documentary footage shot over the past 6 years by the artist during his recovery from colon cancer.

C.M. Talkington is known for writing and directing the cult classic film Love & A .45 starring Renée Zellweger (in her first leading role), Peter Fonda, Rory Cochrane, and Gil Bellows. Music has always been one of the most important, and until 2020, private parts of his life.

Since then, Talkington has released his debut album, Not Exactly Nashville (2020) and Texas Radio (2023) (featuring vocals from Zellweger).

On “Space Invaders,” Talkington shares, “I channeled this song out of the aether with Cisco De Luna & my sacred friends The Guardians Of The Garden. Praying Mantis, Bee, Butterfly, Caterpillar & Hummingbird.

There’s something wonderful happening right now. An ancient powerful energy is rising from within to protect our Sacred Garden from “Space Invaders” intent on destroying it.

While his career in the spotlight really took off nearly 30 years ago as the director of the cult film and Renée Zellweger vehicle Love and a .45, as well as a music video for The Reverend Horton Heat, one of the artists featured on that movie’s soundtrack, C.M. Talkington resurfaced a few years ago with his debut album Not Exactly Nashville, a sober and sobering look at the expansive time period between the two projects that saw him wandering the metaphorical desert through addiction, cancer, and other obstacles only to find himself again with the help of an acoustic guitar.
