Shearwater will release their new album, The New World, on July 31st, 2026, via the band’s own Polyborus label in partnership with Secretly Distribution. Shearwater includes Jonathan Meiburg, Emily Lee, and Dan Duszynski. Ahead of the album’s arrival, the band have shared two lead singles, “Daydream Unbeliever” and “More and More.” Says Meiburg: “If you’re like us, you wake up feeling like the world’s on fire, and hoping you could reckon with it if you knew where to begin. ‘Daydream Unbeliever’ and ‘More and More’ come from this uneasy place. If they help you feel a little less insane, welcome home.”

The New World’s includes Shahzad Ismaily, saxophonist and clarinetist Doug Wieselman, qanunist Farouz Zriek, guitarist Leo Abrahams, ngonist Mamadou Kouyate, percussionists Mahamadou Tounkara and Moctar Kouyate (of Malian group Ngoni Ba), and the unclassifiable drummer Thor Harris.

The New World, the follow-up to their acclaimed 2022 LP The Great Awakening, is also an artistic risk. After releasing six albums with Sub Pop and Matador Records, Shearwater chose to crowdfund, produce, and release the album themselves with the help of Secretly Distribution, distilling it from four years of traveling, fieldwork, and collaboration. It was recorded in London, Berlin, New York, and the band’s Texas headquarters, with Duszynski as chief engineer and additional production by Leo Abrahams and Danny Reisch; Reisch mixed the album with the band in Los Angeles.
