set dressing, is the new side project from Mandy, Indiana, represented only by an avatar — announces i can’t be alone tonite, their new album, arrives April 11th via Fire Talk. Ahead of the arrival, they are sharing new single/video, “date line.” i can’t be alone tonite soundtracks a venture into the dark unknown, combining cinematic synths, 80s-inflected percussion and striking samples to create its singular introductory statement. “date line” follows debut single, “class valedictorian,” which was released last month.

The accompanying video, helmed by Gretchen Krueger (Fire Toolz, draag me), is whimsical and entrancing. Of the video, set dressing adds: “ As ‘date line’ draws influence from 90s toy sounds and advertisements, Gretchen and I discussed how this might influence the visuals. The film Skinamarink and its use of toys and liminal spaces was a reference. We felt that there was a dark undercurrent to this track that was being masked by a sugary, day-glo coat of paint. The song and visual explore how bright plastic packaging can distract from more sinister or harmful intentions.”

set dressing will make their live debut in Manchester on April 12th at 𝐏𝟑 𝑨𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑬𝒗𝒆 {formerly 𝑶! 𝑷𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒚𝒆𝒅} (Basement), followed by a performance at Sounds From the Other City Festival in Salford on May 4th.
