Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band have announced a new run of North American tour dates, the band have also shared new single “Better If You Make Me,” off their new album, New Threats from the Soul, now out via Sophomore Lounge/Tough Love.

“Better If You Make Me,” Follows previous single “Monte Carlo / No Limits.” The later track features violin from Elisabeth Fuchsia, organ by Dan Davis, pedal steel from Christopher May, and more. The song reckons with the perplexities of human efficacy and agency—of acting versus being acted upon. In the song’s opening lines, he sings: “I’ll give up if you let me I’ll be a hero if you teach me how / I can change I can change for the better if you make me / I’ll clean it up if you bleed me out.”

The song’s accompanying video was directed by filmmaking professor Tijah Bumgarner and shot in Charleston, West Virginia and Lexington, Kentucky. Reflecting on the video, Davis says: “I was blown away by the extent to which, wherever we went, all Tijah had to do was say ‘Hi, I’m a professor at Marshall University and we’re here working on a student film…’ Next thing you know, they’d be welcoming me onto their boat, letting me inside the cockpit of a *real* fucking airplane, unattended, no questions asked. At one point, the mayor of Charleston saw us filming at one of the bike race locations, walked up to us and kissed me on the cheek while I was fully bloodied up in fight scene make-up hahaha. The presence of a camera has a mysteriously bewitching effect on people.”
