Runnner Announces ‘Like Dying Stars, We’re Reaching Out’
Runnner, is the project of singer/songwriter Noah Weinman, today, the artist has announced his debut full-length, Like Dying Stars, We’re Reaching Out. Due out February 17th from Run For Cover Records. Runnner’s songs are a mix of hifi/lofi dynamics and intricate arrangements that incorporate guitars, banjo, synths, piano, and most importantly, his warm vocals and inviting melodies. Lead single “i only sing about food.” Ahead of the album’s arrival, Runner has shared “i only sing about food.”
Weinman discussed the new song, saying:
“I wrote this song at my friend’s house one morning. They were on a phone call in the other room so I remember playing very quietly and kind of mumbling until I just started saying “I’m an idiot,” which made me laugh so I decided it was a good starting point. It’s a song about trying to reckon the discord between how I thought of myself and how I felt like I was presenting myself. I was in a stage in my relationship where I wanted so badly to be known on all sides and layers, but felt frustrated at my attempts to convey them. For both production and video, I was really inspired by Madonna’s work from the late 90’s for the Music and Ray of Light records.”
Since 2017 Noah Weinman has been releasing music as Runnner, and the songwriter has already amassed an impressive catalog of beautifully homespun indie folk. Like Dying Stars, We’re Reaching Out follows Runnner’s 2021 collection album, Always Repeating, and marks his most fully realized work to date. Throughout the album Weinman is often preoccupied with communication and the things that can go unspoken, even between people with a deep emotional bond. Weinman describes a hectic headspace and the challenges of opening up in a way that feels at once highly specific and deeply relatable, all while the music unfolds in ways that are instantly appealing but reveal themselves even more with each listen–like an old friend that’s still surprising you.
