“Run” Deeper

Deeper have released a new video for “Run.” The Chicago band’s 7”, was recently released via Fire Talk Dehd Weeping Icon). The video was directed by Noble Savage and uses playful stop motion to match the track’s frenetic energy. The band describes the video below. The band head out for a run of dates, starting October 18th at the Left of the Dial Festival in Rotterdam, NL.

“We’ve all felt guilty after sitting too long on a computer or phone and wish we weren’t so tethered to these devices. For ‘Run’ we wanted to show the catharsis of getting free from these screens, but in a playful way that captures the upbeat spirit of the song. The main character slowly destroys a computer throughout the video, but is constantly grappling with it overtaking him. While the character succeeds, the end of the video finds him right back where he started – watching another screen. Playing around with stop motion was a fun way to incorporate these sentiments without the tone coming off as too dire or dystopian.”

Deeper is comprised of Shiraz Bhatti, Nic Gohl, and Drew McBride. Throughout “Run,” they take a thoughtful and direct approach with their songwriting, yielding spry melodies and inventive structures. It’s a clever combination of jagged post-punk and refined indie rock. A tightly wound rhythm section teeters on the edge, but it’s anchored by intricate guitar interplay and saturated with an enigmatic spirit. Their first album, 2018’s Deeper channeled the anxiety of change in everyday life and navigating the unhinged political atmosphere. “Run” takes a more existential approach, reaching down past the emotion and staring back at the inner.
