Royce Wood Junior drops new single
London based producer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist and soul singer Royce Wood Junior is set to release the fuzzed out, wonky R&B track “Honeydripper” as part of an EP out November 6th through 37 Adventures.
Built around a distinctive blend of classic soul, electronica, funk and R&B, Royce’s sound evokes Prince and Stevie Wonder, whilst also nodding towards leftfield Flying Lotus and J-Dilla style influences, creating slinky and harmonious songs that straddle both worlds. Forthcoming single “Honeydripper” (Released October 26th on 37 Adventures) is a prime example of this, and lives up to its name; Royce’s voice dripping with molten lust, its treacly funk exaggerated by a sticky drum stomp and gloriously squelchy, metallic guitar work.
Prior to stepping into the limelight with his own genre-bending electro-soul jams, Royce cut his teeth behind-the-scenes working as a songwriter, producer and remixer. Following on from playing guitar in Jamie Woon’s live band, Royce worked on Woon’s Dubstep-tinged, soulful debut album ‘Mirrorwriting’, before going on to produce and remix the likes of Kwabs, R&B/ soul ingenues Nao and Denai Moore and singer songwriter Jono McCleery.
Royce Wood Junior also announced headline shows for October in London, Manchester and Leeds. These are Royce’s first gigs since his sold out headline residency at The Waiting Room in East London in July and August, which saw him share the stage with the likes of Jones, Jamie Woon, Gwilym Gold and Denai Moore.
Royce Wood Junior plays the following live shows this October:
Oct 13th Headrow House – Leeds – w/ Dornik
Oct 14th Soup Kitchen – Manchester – w/ Dornik
Oct 21st Electrowerkz – London – w/ Jodie Abacus
