Róisín Murphy has shared two club ready remixes of “You Knew,” from PAYFONE and Eli Escobar, alongside the announcement of a Boiler Room stream launching July 19th, shot in Paris earlier this year. “You Knew” is the fourth piece of the puzzle to be shared from the forthcoming record which is produced by DJ Koze, to be released on September 8th via Ninja Tune.

“”You Knew” is the story of my life. I’m an open book, I put myself on the line and I make my motivations obvious. Many times, I have bravely loved and not been loved in return, and I’m proud of that. That phrase “You Knew” just sums it all up, in fact you could put it on my headstone, except I’ve already decided it’ll say.. You Had Your Chance!” Róisín Murphy

PAYFONE lend their electro-disco touch to the track, providing their own interpretation of the space-age record, spinning up the original mix with a Mr. Fingers-esque classic house bassline and haunting string sections. New York’s house and techno savant Eli Escobar additionally provides his own slant on the track, layering scuttling hats and an infectious walking bassline over Murphy’s cut and warped vocals. Both remixes are inherently different at their core, but equally primed and ready for extensive club-usage.

“You Knew” follows recent single “Fader”, which arrived alongside a self-directed video which Promo News described as “arguably one of the best videos of her illustrious career”. In a full circle moment it is set against the backdrop of Murphy’s hometown of Arklow, County Wicklow, Ireland. Presented in striking black and white – influenced by classic Hip-Hop videos of the early 90s – and also conceptualized by Murphy, who continues to steer all the creative direction of each of her projects, the “Fader” visual enlists the help of 150 Arklow locals. Having grown up in the town and leaving as a child to travel the world, it is difficult not to tap into Murphy’s sense of unification and fulfillment, shining a light on the brilliant people of Arklow.

With Hit Parade, Murphy continues her shape-shifting 30 year career, looking towards the future by joining forces with DJ Koze to conjure blissful music that teems with life and imagination. A hyper-modern record which is a world away from 2020’s critical and commercial success of ‘Róisín Machine’, it further cements Murphy as a total one of a kind at a creative peak, a constantly inquisitive and restless spirit who is unmatched.

Murphy gives each release an entirely fresh and distinct visual identity, and beguiling ‘Hit Parade’ is no different. Overseen by Murphy, the artwork features herself, photo-montaged into an AI generated image from artist Beth Frey, graphic design by Bráulio Amado and commissioned by creative studio Object & Animal (who have previously worked with the likes of FKA Twigs, Caroline Polachek and Shygirl).
