London four-piece RIP Magic — Marco Pini, Felix Bayley-Higgins, Beth Boswell-Knight and Pedro Takahashi — release their new single “Light Over There” this Thursday, the latest step in a rapid rise that has made the band one of the UK’s most closely watched breakthrough acts.

The track follows “5words”, produced by James Murphy in his first outside production credit in over a decade, and “Screwdark”, the band’s debut release on section1, the Los Angeles label affiliated with Partisan Records. Both singles earned A-list rotation on BBC 6 Music. “Light Over There” pushes the band’s sound further into unfamiliar territory, built on dub-inflected synths and uneasy, interlocking vocals from Pini alongside London musicians Tony Njoku and Louis O’Bryen. The result is slower and more hypnotic than earlier releases, with an immersive, narcotic quality that has become a hallmark of RIP Magic’s evolving style.

The release caps a breakout year for the band. RIP Magic recently wrapped a sold-out run of European arenas supporting Tame Impala, a tour that required them to cancel previously announced dates alongside Fcukers; plans to reschedule US shows are reportedly in the works. Earlier RIP Magic demos caught the attention of Tyler, The Creator, and the group has since shared stages with artists including Chanel Beads, Panda Bear and LCD Soundsystem. The Guardian recently called them one of London’s most talked-about emerging acts.

Beyond the stage, RIP Magic has built a reputation as a fixture of London’s underground scene, playing everything from word-of-mouth basement shows to major festival slots, with appearances lined up at End of the Road Festival and Mexico City’s Corona Capital later this year. The band also recently recorded a mix for NTS Radio, offering a preview of new material alongside a wide-ranging selection of influences.
