Rey Pila have premiered their song, “Blast”, and made the track available for free download via Soundcloud, in conjunction with announcing an August New York City residency at Pianos, every Tuesday night, starting on August 5. The Mexico City quartet signed to Cult Records in the fall of 2013 releasing the “Alexander” 7″ single in October, and have been touring in the U.S., UK and Mexico since. In addition to the New York City residency, Rey Pila will join Cult Records founder and boss, Julian Casablancas+The Voidz, in Guadalajara, Mexico on August 14. Both “Alexander” and “Blast” will be featured on the band’s sophomore full-length album, recorded in New York City with producer Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs/Wavves/Smith Westerns), details of which will be announced in the coming months.
Rey Pila is Diego Solorzano, Rodrigo Blanco, Andres Velasco and Miguel Hernandez, though it was born in Mexico City as Solorzano’s solo project. The self-titled debut was co-produced by Solorzano and Paul Majahan (TV on the Radio, Liars, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and released in the U.S. in 2011. Rey Pila has played with the likes of Interpol, Muse, TV on the Radio and Ariel Pink, in addition to their own sold-out headlining concerts in Mexico and abroad. Nylon calls Solorzano “an absolutely magnetic performer.”
Cult Records is helmed by Julian Casablancas. In addition to Rey Pila, the Cult Records roster includes Karen O, Albert Hammond, Jr., Cerebral Ballzy, Har Mar Superstar and more.
