New York City quartet, Rathborne, led by Luke Rathborne and Darren Will, has offered up a third track, “What More”, off their upcoming album, SOFT, to celebrate the band’s performance tonight in Brooklyn at Glasslands (10pm). SOFT will be available physically tonight and at all Rathborne’s upcoming fall tour dates supporting Travis, September 17-October 6 before its digital release, October 15.
SOFT is a record that never stops moving, bounding from one jagged-edged song to the next, marrying the fast-and-loose ethos of No Age with the unhinged garage-pop of Ty Segall and the melodic ease of classic R.E.M. and Big Star. Produced by Rathborne and Emery Dobyns (Antony & the Johnsons, Battles, Noah & the Whale), with mixing and co-production by Gus Oberg and The Strokes’ Albert Hammond, Jr., the record nestles honey-sweet hooks inside tangles of guitar and Darren Will’s percolating bass.
