Primavera Sound Reveals Full 2015 lineup

Primavera Sound Reveals Full 2015 lineup for it's fifteenth anniversary

Announcement from Primavera 2015:

Primavera Sound presented the complete line-up of its next edition with a mysterious application for mobiles that turned out to be a videogame, through which they revealed all the bands that will play at the Barcelona event at the end of May. Names such as The Black Keys, Interpol, The Replacements, Ride, Antony and the Johnsons, alt-J, Underworld, Damien Rice, Belle & Sebastian, The Strokes, Patti Smith, Richie Hawtin, Andrew Weatherall, Christina Rosenvinge, The Julie Ruin, Babes In Toyland, Foxygen, Cinerama, Giant Sand, Run The Jewels, Los Punsetes or Jon Hopkins, among many more appeared on the mobile screens of all those who downloaded the application in order to discover the exclusive preview of the extensive list of artists who will perform at the festival on the occasion of its fifteenth anniversary.

From the extensive line-up which includes the American duo The Black Keys, the presentation of Interpol’s new album, Antony and the Johnsons’s return after his legendary concert in the Auditori del Fòrum in 2005, the stage comeback of the American band The Replacements and the performance in its entirety of her landmark album “Horses” by Patti Smith, who will also give a second performance in acoustic format and another one of “spoken word”, all stand out.

The previously announced The Strokes and the cult band Ride, are joined by other big names for this edition such as pop with hints of dance music from the Scottish band Belle & Sebastian, experimental rock from the Germans Einstürzende Neubauten, the powerful British combo alt-J, exquisite electronic song by James Blake, emotional pop by Damien Rice and hip hop from Run The Jewels, who reached the highest position in charts around the world, are also some of the major attractions of this edition.

Other relevant big names in contemporary music will be at the festival to present their most recent records. This is the case of The New Pornographers and Death from Above 1979, Jason Pierce’s project Spiritualized, of the Animal collective member Panda Bear and also of the charismatic and extravagant Californian musician Ariel Pink and the New Yorkers Foxygen with an album that has placed them in the limelight.

In the national section the participation of artists with a long career on our scene stand out such as Christina Rosenvinge, Sr. Chinarro and former Antònia Font Joan Miquel Oliver. With them, bands with varied careers among which we find Nueva Vulcano, Los Punsetes, The Suicide Of Western Culture and Las Ruinas. And new blood will be well represented with the very young Mourn, new band on the American label Captured Tracks, Perro from Murcia, the Madrid duo Der Panther, experimentation by Ocellot, pop by Neleonard and the presentation of Vic-based Nuria Graham’s debut will be some of the artists that will represent the dynamic nature of national bands.

As is usual now, a countless number of musical styles will fill the stages of the Parc del Fòrum with infinite colour: afrobeat by Tony Allen, Marc Ribot’s unclassifiable proposal at the helm of Ceramic Dog, the proto electronic music from the pioneer of kraut Hans-Joachim Roedelius, African music with the renown band Les Ambassadeurs (fronted by Salif Keita), tropical psychedelia by Fumaça Preta, Arthur Russell Instrumentals will show the most contemporary side of the music by the ill fated artist Arthur Russell and there will be Flamenco by Rocío Márquez.

Guitars will play a considerable role in the programme and will range from the sound experimentation of the veterans Swans (who will give an extended concert in the Auditori) to the post hardcore of Fucked Up. New-fledged metal from Pallbearer, drones by Sunn O))), the Canadian pioneers Voivod, psychedelic rock by Earthless, doom from Dylan Carlson Earth’s band Electric Wizzard and garage by Thee Oh Sees stand out in the most guitarry faction of the line-up.

Rock made by women and with a strong feminist charge that flourished in the 90s, that is often associated with the riot grrrl movement, will be led by the long awaited reappearance of Kathleen Hanna fronting the The Julie Ruin, the reunion of Babes In Toyland, Ex Hex (Mary Timony’s band) and Sleater-Kinney who is back with a new album. Bands that have found a clear reference in Patti Smith, precursor of this movement, who will also be at the Barcelona event.

As for the electronic music programme, it will be headed by the popular Canadian DJ Richie Hawtin and by the show by the British band Underworld that will be entirely devoted to their influential album “dubnobasswithmyheadman” on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. They will be accompanied by veteran DJs including Andrew Weatherall from the UK and Roman Flügel, the London duo Simian Mobile Disco, Dan Snaith’s project Caribou, Dixon (possibly the house DJ of the moment), a live performance by the Brazilian Gui Boratto, The Juan MacLean in band format and one of the names of the year in electronic music: Jon Hopkins

It is also worth highlighting the participation of formations such as The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, band led by Sean Lennon and the model Charlotte Kemp Muhl that will play Spain for the first time, the return of Perfume Genius with a new album under his arm, the presence of Mark Kozelek fronting Sun Kil Moon thrashing out “Benji”, one of the albums of the year and the reunion of two of the key bands in the history of emo Mineral and American Football.

Primavera a la Ciutat will once again continue with its aim to bring quality music to closer all audiences and will increase the presence of the festival in Barcelona. Its free inaugural day on Wednesday 27th May in Parc del Fòrum will include performances by OMD, Albert Hammond, Jr., Cinerama, Christina Rosenvinge, Panama and Las Ruinas. The eclectic singer songwriter My Brightest Diamond, the newcomer Soak, the Barcelona bands Boreals and The Saurs, punk from Iceage, the union of Umberto and Antoni Maiovvi and other bands that will also perform in Parc del Fòrum such as Fucked Up, Thee Oh Sees and Viet Cong, will play in the framework of Primavera als Clubs that will rev up the engines in the days leading up to the main programme with a series of concerts in different venues in the city centre and that will mark the end of the fifteenth edition of Primavera Sound with the classical closing party.

It is also well worth mentioning the free programme that will bring bands such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Jambinai, Lost Tapes, Ferran Palau and Gúdar to Parc de la Ciutadella during the daytime, under the name of Els Vermuts del Primavera al Parc amb Martini, as well as the cycle of Primavera als Bars concerts that, with Heineken, will bring intimate format concerts to bars and restaurants around the city. In-Edit will also be present at what will be its fifth year of collaboration with Primavera Sound, offering the opportunity to enjoy music from a cinematographic perspective, with the screening of documentaries about music.
