Primavera Sound Barcelona 2024 Shares Additional Details. From today until next Sunday, the Primavera Sound week will feature 263 shows

From today until next Sunday, the Primavera Sound week will feature 263 shows Lana del Rey, SZA, Pulp, Vampire Weekend, PJ Harvey, The National, Mitski, Charli XCX, Justice and Disclosure headline the 22nd edition of the festival. The Primavera a la Ciutat concerts mark the start of the programme before the activity moves to the Parc del Fòrum

This year’s festival will kick off on Wednesday, when on the Opening Day by Estrella Damm music will play for the first time in the Parc del Fòrum. Almost a rite of passage that is the hallmark of Primavera Sound Barcelona. A day of free concerts so that the festival and the city merge and that partly helps to explain what this is all about. The fact that it will feature Phoenix, Ratboys, Tropical Fuck Storm and Maria Jaume.

From the early hours of Thursday afternoon until the early hours of Saturday to Sunday morning, festivalgoers will be able to discover the special features of contemporary music on the 15 stages that make up the sound ecosystem of the Parc del Fòrum. The three main days of Primavera Sound Barcelona will transfer all the action to a site where, to tell the truth, experience isn’t that important: both newcomers and veterans of the festival will have a lot to discover because, edition after edition, the Parc del Fòrum always unveils new surprises. A festival that can be experienced at the same time from stands, from a club, or from inside a dark experimental warehouse or even in a recording studio? Of course, but only at Primavera Sound: the Auditori Rockdelux, the Boiler Room x CUPRA dancefloor, the parallel reality of the Warehouse by Dice and the exclusive sessions of the Red Sound Studio by Etnia Barcelona are such unique stages that they will almost have a life of their own at this edition.

Lana del Rey, Pulp, Vampire Weekend, Justice, Disclosure, Troye Sivan and Beth Gibbons, to the ambient lessons of William Basinski to the expansive jazz of BADBADNOTGOOD, from the dance funk by DJ Ramon Sucesso to the Wiegedood’s extreme metal, from the folk exploration of Ángeles, Víctor, Gloria & Javier to the J-pop by ATARASHII GAKKO! from the mature rap of Roc Marciano to the sonorous experiments of Phew, from the reggaeton with a vintage flavour courtesy of DJ Playero to the singer-songwriter Jessica Pratt, from the sardonic punk of Amyl and the Sniffers to the spiritual house of Sofia Kourtesis, from the crazy pop of Princess Superstar to the R&B nostalgia of Erika de Casier, from La Zowi’s trap coolness to the unflagging post-hardcore of Lisabö. This year, as always at Primavera Sound, many of the best things will happen on the fringes.

This year’s edition, which presents an equally gender-balanced line-up with a representation of dissident identities, will be headlined on Saturday by SZA, PJ Harvey, Mitski, Charli XCX and Bikini Kill on their own merits. Especially symbolic is the return to the festival of icon Kathleen Hanna, who will return to the Parc del Fòrum leading Bikini Kill a year after performing with Le Tigre.

The festival creat a Barcelona. The fact that on Thursday, with the Parc del Fòrum already at full capacity, the local band Mujeres will the ones opening the main stages where a multitude of international stars will later perform is much more than a coincidence: from Barcelona for Barcelona, where everything starts and where everything comes back to. Because spreading the name of the city around the world is an honour and the festival is the best opportunity to pay back all the added value it has given to Primavera Sound since 2001. And we are not just saying it: this urban festival model, with Barcelona and Primavera Sound coming together and really giving back for a week, creates a synergy that goes far beyond music.

2024 will be the first year since Steve Albini with Shellac on their annual date with his favourite festival, his figure will be more present than ever at Primavera Sound. And not only because he will receive the tribute he deserves with a stage in the Parc del Fòrum dedicated to his memory (and where on Thursday, at 18:55, the fans and the Primavera family will say goodbye to him by listening to the posthumous Shellac album). He recognised passion as the modus operandi of Primavera Sound, and vice versa.

Sunday 2nd will feature sessions by The Blessed Madonna, ANOTR and Mochakk, but also in the four Primavera a la Ciutat venues that will close the festival with concerts by American Football, The Lemon Twigs, Dorian Electra and Royel Otis. In short, so much will happen at Primavera Sound Barcelona that technically it will be Monday when the music stops in La (2) de Apolo. One week… and a bit.

Primavera Sound continues to strengthen its ecological awareness. Moreover, with the conviction that changes in imaginary can accelerate transformations in society, the Nobody is Normal protocol promoted by the festival will encourage a community celebration of liberation and transgression during this year’s Primavera Sound Barcelona. Both the two stands set up on the site and the trained staff, who will be moving around the site, will form a support network for women, sexual dissidence and non-conventional forms of existence with the aim of making the Parc del Fòrum a safe environment. A policy of zero tolerance towards any form of harassment, discrimination, threat or violence has earned Primavera Sound the distinction of being the first Queer Destinations Committed festival in the world.
