After the recent announcement of their signing with Winspear who will be releasing a reissue of their 2024 album Tear Your Heart Out, dropping on October 10th, Villagerrr have shared the single “Portsmouth Raceway,” a new unreleased track from the the deluxe edition of the LP.

Mark Allen Scott, who has been part of the Midwestern indie music scene for a number of years, along with Merce Lemon, Greg Freeman and more. Tear Your Heart Out features Merce Lemon, was originally released in 2024 via Darling Recordings. The band have toured with Real Estate, Horse Jumper of Love and Momma.

For Scott, revisiting Tear Your Heart Out ahead of its digital reissue and vinyl release has allowed him to appreciate the ways in which it’s making helped him through a turbulent time in his life. There’s a lot to celebrate and certainly even more to look forward to. “It’s exciting to give the songs a bit more life with a vinyl record and see them resonating with more people,” says Scott, peering into the rearview. “It’s interesting how old songs can feel to me, even though most people are just hearing them for the first time.”

Mark Allen Scott on “Portsmouth Raceway”:

“This song is about Portsmouth, Ohio. I lived there for five years in my early 20’s going to school and running and making guitar loops and some of my first recordings. It’s about an hour south of Chillicothe, down state route 23, where I grew up. There’s a huge floodwall with murals painted on it that give a history of the city. I’d run by it almost every day. River Days is a street fair that happens there every summer that’s mentioned in the song. Smash Mouth played there for free, and Blue Oyster Cult.”
