“Peace” Kenton Slash Demon

enton Slash Demon, the duo of Silas Moldenhawer and Jonas Kenton, is back with a new single, “Peace”, on Future Classic and an accompanying video directed by Jenna Mangulad. “Peace” follows Kenton Slash Demon’s pair of EPs for Future Classic.

Director Jenna Mangulad explains the concept behind the “Peace” video:

The inspiration for the “Peace” video came from old black and white horror films. I love the dramatic theatrical vibe in the acting and the way that they frame the pictures. It communicates with the audience with a childish naivety and a sense humor that I really like. When I heard the track, I thought that it had a similar dramatic vibe to it, both in the instrumentation and lyrics. Combining that old style with the modern way of thinking music videos was a lot of fun.

Kenton Slash Demon elaborate on the making of “Peace”:

Nikolaj (Manuel Vonsild, vocalist of When Saints Go Machine) is often the first person we go to for vocals. On “Peace” we recorded a lot of different ideas and worked with so many different techniques to get the vocal to sound exactly like we wanted it to; alien like and futuristic but without it ending up as just an effect, so we had Nikolaj speak the lyrics and then we drew the melody line with a vocoder afterwards.

We actually started working on “Peace” over two years ago and probably finished it a few times. Back in November we worked out of a studio in New York for a week between shows and opened the session up again and made a new mix with added piano, and then that balance finally was there.

It’s definitely the most pop’ish thing we’ve done as Kenton Slash Demon so far but we feel that crafting music that sticks out from more classic underground club tracks is also a part of our DNA. It’s dance music but too slow to really work in a classic club environment and that’s what we really liked about it – that it places itself between being a ‘song’ and a club track.

Kenton Slash Demon will play New York City in support of “Peace” at Good Room on June 10th for FIXED with Simian Mobile Disco and then MoMA PS1 on June 18th for Warm Up followed by a run of shows with Flume.
