Patrick Watson has released the video for "Love Songs For Robots". The title-track from his latest album, now out on Domino Records.
Patrick Watson has released his video “Love Songs for Robots”.  The song is the title track off Watson’s newest album Love Songs for Robots (out now via Domino Records). Of the video, directed by Academy Award-nominated Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowsk, told Interview Magazine praises, “the music video is more like an artistic short film that should be watched until the very end.”

Lavis and Szczerbowsk describe the film as “our attempt to create the sort of film Martians might make for humans, if those Martians had only observed us from afar.” The piece is inspired by the sculpture and ballet of the avant-garde artist Oskar Schlemmer, with choreography and dance by Mistaya Hemingway (La La La Human Steps).

Watson is currently touring worldwide. He returns stateside in September to play through December, concluding with dates in New York City (at Irving Plaza) and Philadelphia (Under Ground Arts).
The music was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Pierre Marchand Studio in Montreal. Of the record, some of which debuted at private concerts in small loft spaces, Watson explains, “I wanted to make a science fiction R n’ B meets Vangelis erotica with a zest of folk kind of record.” It was only halfway through writing the record when the artist found himself having, by his own submission, “a bad year” did more personal themes begin to creep in. “I started thinking about how emotional reactions were more mechanical than we think and the only thing left between us and artificial intelligence is the act of inspiration. Just food for thought.”

Watson composes, performs and records his albums with his full band of almost a decade, which includes Joe Grass (guitars), Robbie Kuster (drums/percussion) and Mishka Stein (bass).
