“Only A Dream” Zella Day

This week, singer/songwriter Zella Day released her new single “Only A Dream”. The track track is off her forthcoming release Where Does The Devil Hide, produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. The EP is due August 28th via Concord Records/Easy Eye Sound.

Ahead of the release of Where Does The Devil Hide, Day has shared a video for “Only A Dream.” Directed by Samuel Richard and Gianennio Salucci. The piece captures Zella at the forefront of an intimately-filmed and emotionally-charged love story. Filmed within the iconic Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, CA and along the golden beaches and sun-soaked highways of the California coast, it’s a poetic ode to the sprawling, beautiful and sometimes tragic journey that is love.

“There are times we must bury our broken hearts in the garden so that spring can do the work we cannot do ourselves,” said Zella about the song. “Living in the memory of what was eventually becomes a memory in itself. The years grow like flowers and the faint scent of love hangs low so that we may remember all of those we wish not to forget.”

“Only A Dream” follows Day’s recent single “Purple Haze,” which dropped earlier this month alongside a video directed by famed artist Neil Krug (Tame Impala, Lana Del Rey). “Purple Haze” was preceded by the dazzling disco track “My Game”, released in May alongside a cinematic music video directed by Phillip Lopez (Lauv, James Arthur) that pays homage to some of Zella’s favorite classic spy films of the 1960s including Pink Panther and Casino Royale. Zella released “People Are Strangers” earlier this spring, a heart-on-its-sleeve song with a video directed by Krug, with whom Zella also collaborated with to create the artwork for Where Does The Devil Hide.
