Oneohtrix Point Never returns with new single “Dim Stars / For Residue (Extended)”. The track arrives in the midst of OPN’s tour that reinterprets Tranquilizer vividly as a live experience, and also revisits some earlier OPN work. Lopatin is once again reunited with multi-disciplinary artist, Freeka Tet who’s singular live visual aesthetic features on stage. The new music follows the release of his Marty Supreme score late last year,

“For Residue (Extended)” expands one of the album’s core ideas into something meditative and expansive, lingering in the afterimage. This extended version was originally featured as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of the album. Together, the tracks deepen the sonic and conceptual universe of Tranquilizer.

Lopatin released the original score for A24’s Marty Supreme on Christmas day last year. It marked his latest collaboration with filmmaker Josh Safdie, and draws from neoclassical orchestration, widescreen synth ecstasy, and tactile 80s hardware, creating a universe that feels both devotional and deliriously futuristic. The score received much critical recognition and noteworthy acclaim, and surprised audiences with a second home run for Lopatin in such a short space of time.

Across his career, Lopatin has blurred boundaries between solo work, film scoring, and collaboration, with credits ranging from The Weeknd to Charli XCX, and from David Byrne to the aforementioned Safdie Brothers’ films.
