Kayla Janowitz, aka: After Ours, grew up surrounded by a diverse range of musical influences. Her mother, a classically trained opera singer, performed in Hong Kong and the U.S., while her brother, an accomplished guitarist introduced her to eclectic genres such as punk, jazz, and classic rock. Recently, the artist shared the single ahead of the arrival of her LP Imaginary Friends, with release—“One Last Time.” The track, is ccompanied with a playfully macabre video about saying goodbye to a hot-and-cold lover for the final time.

After facing health issues in her early twenties, during which she found solace in her love of music, Janowitz’s new record, Imaginary Friends, came together. Half written in New York and the other half while she was living in Los Angeles, the album was recorded over ten days with Josef Kuhn in his Nashville studio and mixed by Al Carlson (Jessica Pratt, Weyes Blood, Arthur) in New York. Imaginary Friends explores intense emotions and experiences, skillfully weaving in humor and self-awareness throughout. Set for release on June 6th via Acrophase Records, it promises to be a standout.

“I started writing songs in 2021. One Last Time is the first song I wrote that I felt stoked about- I’ll never forget that feeling. I recorded a voice memo of it on my phone, threw it in GarageBand, put some reverb on it, and the demo sat in my computer for a while. Fast forward 3 years later, I rerecorded it with Josef Kuhn, who worked on the whole album with me, and we gave it the zhuzh it deserved. ‘One Last Time’ is one of the first songs that really felt like After Ours.”
